Oakmont was by far the most demanding golf course Ive ever played. What an amazing experience. No room for error from the tee to green - very penal to say the least. Once on the green - look out!!! The severely sloping greens were 14 - 15 on the stimpmeter making it so difficult to control the ball. It was crazy. What is also amazing is that 17 of these greens have never been altered in construction. They are the original greens....exactly how they were from day 1. Only one green was remodeled because there was a need for a bridge or road. In 1962 Jack Nicklaus 3 putted only once. Jack won in a playoff against Arnold Palmer who 3 putted 11 times. That is about how many I had in 2 days and missed the cut by a mile. I plan on checking out Paula Creamer's stats. I know she hit nearly every fairway and most greens.
We are on the 18th Hole at Oakmont on Monday. Starting on Wednesday these grand stands were piled with people. It was Awesome!!!
